Born of the virgin Mary, brought up as a carpenter, called twelve disciples, performed miracles and cast out demons, died on a cross, and rose from the dead.
We’ve heard the story countless times, but no matter how familiar we may be with who Jesus was and what He did for us on that cross, we can never be reminded enough of the purpose and truth behind Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.
Here are just three truths we can reflect on in light of this Easter season:
1. Jesus is the Christ who completed the work of the prophet, priest, king, and judge.
Jesus is the true Prophet, bridging us to our Holy God (John 14:6). He is the sacrificial Priest who shed His own blood to cleanse me of all my sin (Romans 8:2). He is the King who destroyed the enemy and freed us from eternal bondage (1 John 3:8). He is the final Judge (Revelations 20:10).
Jesus accomplished the work of the Christ through death on the cross and through His resurrection. Because Jesus is the Christ, He is the only Savior who can deliver mankind from the fundamental spiritual root problem of sin, satan, and spiritual separation/death. He declared “It is finished!” The work of salvation is complete!
2. We are now children of God – holy and blameless before Him.
Because we are covered by the blood of Jesus Christ, we are no longer subject to eternal separation from God and suffering! Our sins – past, present, and future – are forgiven, and we are no longer slaves to satan’s power and authority.
We are now holy, righteous, blessed, precious, and children of God.
3. God’s promises are never broken.
Even from the very beginning in Genesis 3:15, it was revealed that God would make a way. All of the Old Testament foreshadowed WHO that Savior would be and HOW He would fulfill that covenant promise. That covenant promise was fulfilled when Jesus, the Son of God, died on the cross for our sins, and rose from the dead — defeating sin and death once and for all and bridging the relationship between man and God. Because of the fulfillment of this covenant promise (as well as the other countless promises that were fulfilled), we can have full and complete faith in the promises of God.
As we reflect on these truths, may we be further filled with awe at the free gift of grace that we have been given. May joy flood our hearts so that our praises to Him would overflow. May we continue to glorify Him in all that we do.
Praise be to our God who has defeated death and sin once and for all!
